one among the foremost remarkable things about the breast is it's the sole organ you're not born with. you're born with a nipple and much of potential: stemcells behind the nipple that have the capacity of becoming breast ducts given the proper hormonal stimulation.

once you add the hormones of puberty your nipple grows then behind it an entire organ forms. When a lady becomes pregnant the hormones take the breast tissue to subsequent level, able to turn blood into milk to feed the kid . Not only does the breast milk nourish the kid , it also passes on a number of the mother’s immunity to the local environment also as important bacteria and viruses needed to colonize the child’s gut. Once its job is over, the breast then cleans up all the milk making cells and ducts, and makes new ones so it'll be ready for subsequent child. Finally, when a lady enters menopause it goes into retirement.

The anatomy and development of the breast

The breast itself is typically tear-shaped. There’s breast tissue from the collarbone all the way right down to the previous couple of ribs, and from the breastbone within the middle of the chest to the rear of the armpit.

Often there’s a ridge of fat at rock bottom of the breast—the inframammary ridge. This ridge is perfectly normal, and is that the results of the very fact that we walk upright and our breasts fold over themselves. The areola is that the darker area of the breast surrounding the nipple. Its size and shapevary from woman to woman, and its color varies consistent with complexion. In most girls , it gets darker after the primary pregnancy. There are hair follicles round the nipple, so most girls have a minimum of some nipple hair. you'll also notice little bumps round the areola that appear as if goose pimples. These are the small glands referred to as Montgomery’s glands, which sit slightly below your areola and supply lubrication during breastfeeding.

Sometimes nipples are “shy”: when they’re stimulated they retreat into themselves and become temporarily inverted. this is often nothing to stress about; it's no effect on milk supply, breastfeeding, pleasure , or anything .

Why breasts bounce—because the breast tissue sits between layers of fat 

Inside, the breast tissue is sandwiched between layers of fat; behind that's the chest muscle. The fat has some give thereto , which is why breasts bounce. The breast tissue is firm and rubbery. 

The breast also has its share of the animal tissue that holds the whole body together. This material creates a solid structure—like gelatin—in which the opposite sorts of tissues are loosely set. this is often sometimes called the stroma and is getting more attention as recent studies show its importance in carcinoma .just like the remainder of the body, the breast has arteries, veins, and nerves. 

there's another, almost parallel, network of vessels called the systema lymphaticum (or lymphatics) which works like recyclers or filters for helping the body fight infection. the work of this network is to gather the debris from the cells and strain it through the lymph nodes found scattered in nests throughout the body; they then send the filtered fluid back to the bloodstream to be reused.

Understanding the breast is critical to understanding cancer. But you furthermore may need to understand two supporting organs, the ovaries and adrenal glands, that help choreograph its behavior. These organs and their resulting hormones inherit play in our current understanding of  carcinoma and its treatment.
